i talked to the one that is living there now with the owner and she went to a hardware store and brought sample weeds with her and they sold her what she needs to take care of it. she said she will put the chemicals on them tomorrow. so there's some progress. i don't know why she doesn't take better care of her house too. ther railings are all rusted and hwer trim around the roof needs paint badly. the garage looks like it could fall down. pretty bad.

nobody that bad around here that i've noticed. thank goodness. well, there is one house at the end of the block - away from us - they have a shredded tent in their yard and piles of some kind of square tiles for their yard that have been stacked up on the front lawn for 2 years and they dug up the grass on one side of the yard and just left it that way. now its all weeds. they are from mexico and probably not here legally. their place is a mess. the town does have a law that grass/weeds cannot grow over 6 inches - they must be cut. there are a few houses in the city that look pretty bad but not too many.

most places are ok. there is always one that seems to have award winning dandelions all over and they don't cut them till after the seeds have infected the entire neighborhood.

There seems to be more drives than gardens, too many cars and not enough parking spaces, so people are forgoing front gardens

most people have long driveways, unlike the corner houses. ours is short, but others can handle several cars, so everyone has a front yard. we have a lot of grassy area because of being on a corner.

worked all day planting, still haVE A LOT TO PLANT. i have to dig up all along the side fence - between the fence and the sidewalk. i plaNTED A BUNCH OF DAY LILIES THERE YEARS AGO AND THEY DID WELL UNTIL THE LAST FEW YEARS. THE TREE has grown and filled out so much that it blocks the light except on one end. so they grow, but never bloom anymore. i'll dig them all out, except the few on the end, and fix the rubber border and then plant sunpatients there since they don't have to be in the sun. that will probably be a 2 day job tho.

i'm beginning to wonder. i got all the window boxes planted and the flower area by the shed in the back yard. 2 more areas to work on. tomorrow will be dry again but warmer, so i can get the area by the fence started at least. don't know how long it will take to do the whole job. but then the rain and storms start again friday and over the weekend. i'm probably going to end up painting the porch or at least the parts of it that i can reach. haven't heard any more from Artis.

congrats on the new furniture. turns out the area along the fence is like hacking thru solid rock. the ground is so hard because i haven't done anything to it since i first planted them about 20-25 years ago. i raked it out real good and started hacking away but only got about a five foot area of it. maybe a 1/4 of it. i'm just throwing ayaw the clumps because they are too hard to break up and full of roots. i bought several bags of top soil and fill it in with that. i had no idea it would be that hard. its worse than along the front sidewalk that i did. i actually considered buying a motorized tiller, but they cost too much and use gas. then i have to buy a gas can and i hate trying to start those kind of tools. i could rent one but the rental is too wide for the area i'm doing. sure could use Artis now. i finally got tired and went around pulling weeds and raking dried leaves from when they trimmed the bushes. i quit. started toi rain, but just for a minute. supposed to0 have rain and storms until monday.
